Key locking threaded Insert

Key locking threaded Insert

A Key Locking Insert is a high-strength, cylindrical threaded bushing engineered to create permanent, reusable, and vibration-resistant threads in soft or previously damaged parent materials. After insertion into a tapped hole, two to four hardened keys are driven into the surrounding substrate, locking the insert against both rotation and axial movement. This mechanical anchoring system delivers superior pull-out and torque-out performance compared to conventional threaded inserts or tapped threads alone.

All keys are manufactured from the same alloy as the body and heat-treated to ≥ 40 HRC to ensure reliable cold-swaging into the parent material.

    Standard Ranges

    ◎ Metric: M2 × 0.4 through M24 × 3.0, lengths from 1.5 d to 3.0 d (where d = nominal thread diameter).

◎ Inch: #2-56 UNC through 1¼-12 UNF, lengths from 0.250 in to 2.000 in.

◎ Wall styles: thin-wall (for limited space), heavy-duty (for maximum load), and extra-heavy (for oversized holes).

◎ Head styles: standard flush, countersunk (90° or 120°), and floating (for alignment tolerance).

    Advantages

◎ Load Transfer: Provides 1.5–2× the pull-out strength of the parent tapped hole.

◎ Vibration & Shock Resistance: Positive key lock prevents loosening under dynamic loads.

◎ Thread Repair: Eliminates the need to drill and re-tap to a larger size.

◎ Re-usability: Can be removed and replaced without damaging the parent thread.

◎ Wide Temperature & Chemical Tolerance: Operates from cryogenic ‑240 °C to 815 °C with appropriate alloy choice.

    ◎ Compliance: Meets or exceeds MIL-I-45914, NASM8846, MS51835, and ISO 10964 specifications.

◎ Drill the hole to the specified insert outside diameter.
◎ Tap with the corresponding STI (Screw-Thread Insert) tap.
◎ Screw the insert in until flush or slightly below the surface.
◎ Using the provided key-driver tool, drive each key into the pre-drilled recesses until flush with the insert head.
◎ Inspect for flush seating and perform torque test if required.
◎ No additional locking compounds or special fixtures are necessary, making field repair quick and reliable.
