Wire Thread Insert (also known as a helicoil insert) is a precision-formed, continuous-wire coil that provides a strong, wear-resistant, and reusable threaded hole in softer or lower-strength parent materials. After installation into a tapped STI (Screw Thread Insert) hole, the insert’s spring-like action anchors it firmly, creating a permanent, high-strength thread that accepts standard bolts or screws while compensating for pitch and flank-angle errors.

    ◎ Lengths: 1.0 d to 3.0 d (where d = nominal thread diameter).

    ◎ Pitch Diameters: Free diameter is typically 0.010–0.015 in larger than the tapped hole to ensure radial preload.

    – Screw-locking (tanged or tangless) with internal locking coil that grips the bolt to prevent loosening under vibration.

    Drill the hole to the specified STI diameter (oversized compared to standard tap).

    Tap with the corresponding STI tap to create the required oversized internal thread.

    Using the installation tool, wind the insert into the tapped hole until the top coil is flush (or ¼ turn below for countersunk styles).

    For tang-type inserts, break off the drive tang using the tang-break tool; tangless inserts use a reverse-winding mandrel.

    Inspect visually; the insert should be fully seated with no gaps or protrusions.

    Allow any induced stresses to relax (especially in plastics), then torque-test the mating bolt to specification.
